War of 1812
To distract attention from his plan to use the Patuxent to seize the capital, British Rear Admiral Cockburn conducted a series of raids along the Potomac. First hit was Leonardtown. On July 19, 1814, 1,500 troops assailed the town via a land and sea attack. Learn more about the story from the wayside marker at the park overlooking Breton Bay and from the exhibit at Tudor Hall.
